Who is Laurie Berzack?

Happily married for 25+ years and mother of two, Berzack claims she knew she was on the right career path when she “started my first matchmaking business and it didn’t feel like a job… it felt like my life’s mission.”

As to how she got there... It started with completing a master’s in Social Work, with a focus on Community Organization, along with a BA in English and Psychology. Now she has over 10 years of matchmaking experience under her belt.

Prior to becoming a matchmaker and dating coach, she worked with the United Jewish Appeal (UJA), coordinating national conferences and training volunteers and college students on fundraising for the organization.

The Road To Becoming Carolina's Matchmaker

When she started her first matchmaking service in Charlotte, NC in 2006, she designed Chai Expectations specifically for Jewish singles. 

In 2012, she expanded it to include all singles who needed a little help finding a quality relationship.

She rebranded as Carolinas Matchmaker, with the “goal of giving her clients the genuine, lifelong partnerships they deserve.”

Since she began her matchmaking career, Berzack and her team have met with thousands of singles across the Carolinas to assist them on their dating journey.

They work with singles in Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte, Columbia, Durham, Hilton Head, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Winston Salem. However, Berzack only works with a handful of clients at a time. 

Carolinas Matchmaker has been featured on a variety of sources, including: the Charlotte Observer and the US News & World Report.

Carolinas Matchmaker Costs

Laurie Berzack charges about $15-25K for her services. She customizes each package to meet a client’s needs, which can affect her prices. Contracts with Carolinas Matchmaker typically last a year at a time.

If you wish to become a paying client, start by filling out the online form.

They’ll set you up with an initial consultation where you will review your dating goals and past obstacles. This helps Berzack identify the type of partner you are looking for.

Berzack then uses this information to pull potential matches from her database. She interviews each one before offering them to you as a match. However, she does not give you photos or names when you are making your decision.

Alternatively, eligible singles can enter the database for free. But these singles are only considered if they happen to match with a paying client’s ideal partner qualities. So this is a passive system - people in the database may never actually be set up on any dates.

An Entrepreneurial Spirit

In addition to matchmaking, Laurie Berzack helped create the Matchmakers Alliance, along with fellow matchmakers Michelle Jacoby (founder of DC Matchmaking) and Maria Avgitidis (founder of Agape Match). 

The Matchmakers Alliance is a non-profit organization that helps dating professionals network with each other.

Berzack has also been nominated twice for the Best Matchmaker title at the iDate Awards, once in 2017 and again in 2020.

Not only is she a nationally recognized matchmaker, she has also dipped her toes into software development. Berzack developed a program called Matchmaker Select that allows her to filter and find matches more effectively.

Laurie Berzack’s Take On Modern Dating

Laurie Berzack and her team offer more than just matchmaking services. Date coaching starts around $150 per hour. She also offers workshops to learn dating skills.

In fact, Berzack told the Charlotte Observer that demand for finding a serious relationship [during the pandemic] increased their number of clients. They had 20 matchmaking clients and 8 online dating coaching clients, which is the highest they had ever been.

Berzack isn’t shy when it comes to the spotlight. She posts frequently on social media and guest appears on podcasts. She even suggests alternative ways to meet new people on the Ask a Matchmaker podcast:

“Let’s take it back to like the 19… what was it? The 40s or the 50s when they used to have dances… that would be such a fun way to meet each other again.”

As an expert in her field, Berzack is in the business of lending a hand when it comes to modern dating. She usually offers free dating advice on her social media, like this:

Many of her dating tip videos focus on identifying one’s motives, so they learn how to better understand themselves, their wants, and their needs. Before taking any action with a romantic interest.

As she puts it, 

“I do a lot of work with people learning how to love themselves... The more we love ourselves, the more we will attract someone who is at that higher vibration of love.”
