Plenty of Fish has two paid membership tiers - POF Plus and POF Premium. You’re here, so you’re probably wondering if POF is worth paying for, or if it’s better to keep using it for free.

POF Plus vs POF Premium

If you don’t see the option to upgrade to POF Plus, that’s because it’s not available in your area.

POF Plus

A POF Plus membership includes these features:

• Unlimited likes
• First look at new members
• Message read receipts
• The ability to add up to 16 photos on your profile
• Extended profile viewing
• No ads

POF Premium

If you live in an area where POF Plus isn’t available, POF Premium is your only upgrade option. These are the features you’ll unlock:

• All the POF Plus perks
• 50 first contacts every day
• Access to the Username Search
• See everyone who Likes you all at once
• See who viewed your profile
• Show up first on Meet Me

A POF Plus membership costs less than POF Premium, with prices varying by location.

Is POF Worth Paying For?

Probably not. While POF is a legit dating site that’s been around since 2003, it’s simply not as popular as other dating platforms. In most cases, you’re likely better off using POF for free. Consider upgrading one of the more popular apps instead.

If you’re a single millennial, Hinge is a great option that offers two paid tiers: HingeX and Hinge+. Bumble is also a good bet if you’re in your late 20s and up, and opt for Match if you’re 35+. 

Tinder is still the most popular dating app for singles under 24, and you can choose from a Plus, Gold or Platinum membership.

That being said, if you’re an avid POF user and you live in a mega city, upgrading isn’t a bad idea if it’s in the budget.

Seeing new members before the masses can give you a chance to connect with a potential match before they get overwhelmed with messages, and seeing everyone who liked or viewed your profile can save a lot of time.

Upgrading POF also gives your profile more visibility, as it appears higher in search results and sooner in Meet Me. That can be helpful when you’re in an area with a ton of other users.

POF Boosts

If you want the heightened visibility without paying for a POF membership, you can always purchase a Boost. Boosting your profile will give your profile priority in the Meet Me section, which is where users swipe through profiles.

POF Boosts last for 30 minutes. The dating site claims you’ll get up to 10x more profile views while it’s activated.

Boosts can be purchased with Tokens, the in-app currency. Each Boost costs 1 Token.

To initiate a profile Boost, tap on the lightning icon while you’re in the Meet Me section.

Pro Tip: Make Your POF Headline Count!

In Meet Me, POF displays your primary profile pic and your headline. While a potential match can tap your photo to check out the rest of your profile, it’s more likely they’ll just make a split second decision based on the combination of the two.

If you treated your headline like a throwaway when you created your profile, you’re likely sabotaging your match rate.

Cliches like “just looking around” or “hi there” do nothing to spark attraction. If someone is already on the fence about your photo, a crappy headline will be the deciding factor.

How To Cancel POF Plus Or POF Premium

As with most dating app memberships, POF Plus and POF Premium automatically renew. If you want to go back to using POF for free or if you decide to delete POF, you’ll need to cancel your membership.

If you purchased POF Plus or Premium via the App Store:

1. From your phone’s Settings menu, choose iTunes & App Store
2. Tap your Apple ID
3. Select Media & Purchases, then View Account
4. Tap Subscriptions, and then find POF in the list
5. Tap Cancel Subscription

If you purchased POF Plus or Premium via Google Play:

1. Open the Google Play app
2. Tap your profile icon
3. Tap Payments & select the POF subscription
4. Tap Cancel

To cancel your subscription via POF.com

1. Log onto your POF account online
2. Go to Manage Account
3. In the Membership selection, select Account Type
4. Under My Membership, section cancel membership
