đź’ˇ Key Insights:
- Friend-Powered Dating: Tinder Matchmaker allows friends and family to recommend profiles to you—even if they're not Tinder users themselves, creating a "circle of trust" around your dating experience.
- Limited-Time Sessions: Each Matchmaker session lasts just 4 hours—links expire after this window, ensuring your dating profile isn't perpetually viewable to others.
- Recommendation Control: When friends recommend profiles, they're not actually swiping for you—you maintain final control over who you match with by reviewing recommendations after the session ends.
- Quick Setup Options: You can start a Matchmaker session either from your settings menu or directly from a specific profile you want feedback on—with a limit of 15 session links per day.
- Limited Availability: As of its late 2023 launch, the feature is only available in 15 countries including the US, UK, Australia, and select European and Asian markets—with global rollout planned.
If you’re like the majority of singles Tinder surveyed, you keep your friends and family looped into your dating life. That’s the motivation behind Tinder Matchmaker, a feature designed to let other people - even if they’re not Tinder users themselves - recommend profiles to you.
As Tinder’s CMO explained in a press release introducing the feature,
“Tinder Matchmaker brings your circle of trust into your dating journey and helps you see the possibilities you might be overlooking from the perspective of those closest to you.”

How To Start A Matchmaker Session On Tinder
There are two ways to start a Matchmaker session on Tinder.
To do it from the Settings screen:

- Tap the gear icon
- Scroll down to “Manage Matchmaker”
- Tap “Settings”
- Tap “Invite friends to Matchmaker”
- Select the contact and the method by which you want to send the invite
- Send your message

You can also start a Matchmaker session directly from a profile card:

- Tap the “Invite” button on the pop up notification
- Tap “Yes, Invite Friends”
- Select the contact and the method by which you want to send the invite
- Send your message
You can create up to 15 of these links per day, and each one expires after 4 hours. Each person you share a link with sees the same profiles. If you created a link via a specific profile card, they will also see that profile.
Once you’ve shared a link, you won’t see the share profiles while the session is active. After the 4 hours is up, you can check and see whether a profile was recommended.
If your contact is a Tinder user, their name will appear as the person who liked the profile. If they log in as a Guest, adding their first name is optional so you may not see it.
How Tinder Matchmaker Works
All the recipient has to do is follow the link, and they’ll be able to play matchmaker on your behalf for up to 4 hours. If they aren’t already a Tinder user, they’ll be able to log on as a guest user. This simply involves answering an age verification prompt and agreeing to Tinder’s T&Cs.
When a “matchmaker” is engaged in a session for you, they can recommend profiles by liking them, but can’t send any messages on your behalf.
Once the Matchmaker session has expired, you’ll be able to review all the profiles they recommended for you.
Note a rec from a friend does not actually “like” the profile - you’re still in control of who you match with. If you are interested in a recommended profile, you’ll still need to swipe right if you want to try and form a match.
You can end an active Matchmaker session at any time within the 4-hour period. Just go to “Manage Matchmaker” in Settings and tap “Terminate all active sessions”.

If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of Tinder Matchmaker, you can opt out of the feature. From the Manage Matchmaker screen, toggle off “Show me in Matchmaker”.

Tapping on the provided link will bring you to Tinder Web. The link you receive can only be accessed once, and it expires after 4 hours.
If you’re already a Tinder user, you can log in. If not, you can continue as a Guest.
Once the session has begun, you can “Like” or “Nope” on the limited number of profiles you’ll find in the feed. A “Like” means you’re recommending that person to your friend - you’re not actually swiping right on the profile on behalf of your friend.
As a Guest user, you’ll have the option of adding your first name so that your friend knows who liked the profiles. If you’re logged in via your existing Tinder account, it will show up automatically when they review their recs.
