Meet NYC Matchmaker Brooke Wise

Brooke Wise's passion for helping people connect took root during her finance career, where she held positions in equity institutional sales at two investment banks before transitioning to the hedge fund industry.

In an interview with Julie Lauren, Wise discussed how her finance career has always centered around forming connections with people: 

“When I worked in Finance, I was on the people-facing side of the business, rarely in the corner crunching numbers. I interacted and connected with investors, analysts, hedge fund managers, portfolio managers, CEO’s… and etc and etc.” 

In 2011, Wise decided to “follow her heart” and launched Wise Matchmaking. As she explained in an interview,

“After Wharton and ten years on Wall Street, I knew my talents were misplaced.”

She said she has always had a penchant for setting up those in her orbit, like her colleagues and friends, and finds making meaningful connections extremely motivating.

“I know people and I am a good listener. Matchmaking allows me to use my skills to connect people in the most fulfilling way.” 

Brooke Wise’s Dating Philosophy 

Over the years, Wise has shared her dating advice through various media outlets, including the Huffington Post and Elite Daily. 

For example, in Huffington Post, Wise recommends using dry wit and sarcasm cautiously when dating. While that type of humor can be appealing to some, it also risks being misconstrued as condescending or bully-like behavior. 

As she explains, 

"It’s a balance. Never easy, and with dating, as with wit, timing is everything. You might leave your arsenal of wit for a more advanced relationship.”

Wise also stresses the importance of having future goals in alignment for a successful partnership. Even when a couple shares values and interests, conflicting expectations can undermine the relationship's success. 

As Wise articulates: 

“Outside of shared values, subjective physical preferences, and common interests, I prioritize the specific person’s near term expectations. If a man is not ready for marriage or a family, I try and avoid a pairing with a woman whose near term goals are marriage and children.” 

She also points out that you should consider if a potential partner has ever been in a long-term relationship, or just ones that lasted a few months. Wise shared that the lack of a committed relationship could be a sign of what’s to come. 

In her own words, 

“This could be a red flag. It doesn’t mean that his/her first serious relationship can’t be their wife or husband, but the odds are not in your favor.”

What To Expect As A Client

Wise Matchmaking primarily serves singles who are located in or have strong ties to NYC or South Florida. She often works with bicoastal clients, and occasionally singles in other cities, but only those who have some sort of connection to Manhattan.

Wise Matchmaking has 6 locations. New York branches include Manhattan, Tribeca, Upper East Side, and Greenwich Village. The two Florida offices are in Miami and Palm Beach.

For potential clients, the process starts with filling out a form on the website. It asks for basic information about yourself and “your story”, and also requires uploading at least 1 (and up to 3) recent photos.

You’ll also specify whether you want to join as a client, just be listed in the database as a potential match, or if you’re not sure which route is best for you.

After the team reviews your information, you’ll be contacted to schedule a consultation. 

Wise has said she takes the time to know each client on a personal level before the matchmaking process begins, often meeting them for a meal face to face. 

As a client, you’ll be paired with other clients, singles from her database, and matches sourced via Wise’s network. Depending on your level of service, she also does targeted outreach.

After each date, she conducts a follow-up call with her clients to review the date and gauge whether adjustments need to be made for future matches.

How Much Does Wise Matchmaking Cost?

Wise Matchmaking doesn't disclose their pricing online. But taking a quick look at what a few comparable matchmaking services charge can provide some insight into what you can safely expect to invest.

For example, Enamour is a “white glove” matchmaking service that caters to singles in both New York and Florida. Matches are selected from Enamour’s highly curated, invitation only database, or identified via the extensive recruiting and scouting process. 

Enamour packages start around $20,000 for a 6-month contract.
