đź’ˇ Key Insights:

  • Unmatching is permanent: Once you unmatch with someone on Tinder, you can't undo it or rematch with that person again.
  • Simple 5-step process: Access the unmatch feature through the Safety Toolkit by tapping the shield icon (iOS) or ellipses (Android) in your match's chat.
  • No notifications sent: The other person won't be alerted that you unmatched them, though they may notice your disappearance from their match list.
  • Unmatching vs. reporting: Unmatching simply removes the connection, while reporting alerts Tinder's Trust & Safety team about inappropriate behavior.
  • Can report after unmatching: If you need to report someone after unmatching, you can still do so through Tinder's Safety Center or their online reporting form.
  • Complete removal: Unmatching removes the person from your match queue, prevents future messages, and ensures they won't appear in your potential match feed again.

Whether you swiped right when you meant to swipe left or you’re no longer interested in someone, it’s easy to unmatch on Tinder.

In this quick FAQ, you’ll get step-by-step instructions on how to delete a Tinder match and exactly what happens when you do it.

Let's get started!

How To Unmatch On Tinder

To unmatch someone on Tinder, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your match queue by tapping the message icon in the menu bar
  2. Tap on the Tinder user you want to unmatch with
  3. Tap on the blue shield icon (iOS users) or the ellipses icon (Android users) at the top right

These steps will allow you to unmatch even if you haven’t sent a message yet.

What Happens When You Unmatch Someone On Tinder?

Unmatching removes them from your match queue, and vice versa. They will no longer be able to see your profile or send you a message. They will also not appear in your potential match feed again.

An unmatch on Tinder can not be undone, even if you did it accidentally. Once you’ve unmatched you will not be able to re-match with them.

Does The Other Person Know That You Unmatched Them On Tinder?

No, the Tinder user you unmatched will not be notified of your action. However they may figure it out if they happen to notice your profile no longer appears in their match feed.

Is Unmatching The Same As Reporting A Match On Tinder?

No, these are two separate actions.

Unmatching or deleting someone removes them from your match feed and vice versa. You will not have the opportunity to match with that user again. This is the action you should take if you’re no longer interested in messaging with someone.

Reporting a match on Tinder sends a notification to Tinder’s Trust & Safety team. You should report a match if they are harassing you, sending inappropriate messages, making you feel uncomfortable, etc. You can also report a match if you suspect they are a scammer or selling something.

report a match on Tinder

To report a match on Tinder, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your match queue by tapping the message icon in the menu bar
  2. Tap on the Tinder user you want to report
  3. Tap on the blue shield icon (iOS users) or the ellipses icon (Android users) at the top right
  4. Select “Report” from the pop-up window
  5. Select the reason from the list of options
  6. Tap “Next”
  7. Tell Tinder what happened by selecting an option from the menu
  8. Tap “Next”
  9. Tell Tinder where the reportable action occurred by selecting the appropriate description from the menu
  10.  If prompted, confirm which content you found inappropriate
  11. Confirm the action by tapping “Submit”

The other user will not be notified that you reported them. They will be removed from your match feed, and vice versa. You will not see that person’s profile again, and they will not be able to contact you.

As with unmatching someone, reporting them is a permanent action and cannot be undone.

How To Report A Match You Already Unmatched (Or Who Unmatched You)

  1. Bring up the Safety Center by tapping the shield icon
  2. Select “Access Safety Center” in the Safety Toolkit
  3. In the “Guide” section, tap on “How To Report Someone”
